KHOST CITY - The attack on a special police base in south-eastern Khost province came to an end on Tuesday with the killing of five soldiers and 10 assailants, an official said.
Another 25 soldiers were injured when an explosives-packed vehicle was detonated against the police centre in Khost City, the provincial capital, at around 5am.
Police chief Brig. Gen. Ghulam Daud Tarakhel told Pajhwok first a car bomb was detonated at the entrance to the special police centre and then the 10 assailants entered a fire-fight with the security forces.
He said three of the attackers were killed in the explosion and the remaining seven were eliminated during a nine-hour long gun-battle with security forces.
He said five security forces were also killed in the clash and nine civilians were also wounded in the attack.
