Afghanistan Needs International Aid Beyond 2014: Hague

KABUL - British Foreign Secretary William Jefferson Hague says that Afghanistan will need financial aid from International community beyond 2014.
In an exclusive interview with TOLO news, Mr Hague said that countries which attended the Bonn conference in Germany on December 5, including Britain will continue their financial cooperation with Afghanistan.

British Foreign Minister said that Afghanistan is a rich country in terms of natural resources but it will take time to manipulate them. He also stressed that Britain will stand by Afghanistan through 2020.

"We have said very clearly that our forces will not be in a combat role after 2014, but I have reiterated very strongly at this conference that that we will be there with Afghanistan in so many other ways with diplomacy, with trade, with aid, with economic cooperation and with training, Mr Hague said.

"We will be active in supporting Afghanistan in a great variety of ways and it does underline the importance of our economic aid in which we have committed ourselves," he added.

Mr Hague also said the conditions of talks with the Taliban stressed by President Karzai were very vital. The Afghan government has always stressed that the Taliban should accept the Afghan constitution to join the peace process.
