UNSC Urged to Press Parties into Cutting Violence

KABUL - Senior Afghan officials on Monday asked the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to press the warning sides into reducing violence.
The deputy head of the Afghanistan Independent Human Right Commission (AIHRC) stressed the need for guarantee from the UN regarding the reduction in violence.
Ariana News quoted Naeem Nazari as calling for the UN guarantee that he viewed as essential for continuation of the peace negotiations.
“A guarantee should exist from a credible institution of the UN regarding reduction in violence and continuation of peace talks,” said Naeem Nazari, deputy head of the AIHRC.
Nazari’s call comes amid raging violence across the country, including the Taliban’s attack on the Dasht-e-Archi district of Kunduz province.
High Council for National Reconciliation Chairman Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, meanwhile, emphasised on a mediator working with the negotiating delegations.
The government delegation had floated new options to the Taliban in an attempt to break the deadlock in the negotiations, the reconciliation chief said. (Pajhwok)
