Afghan Policy Under Review: Pakistan

Afghan Policy Under Review: Pakistan

ISLAMABAD - Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar Tuesday said the government was reviewing its policy on Afghanistan because a "prosperous, stable and peaceful" neighbor was in the best interests of Pakistan.

During question hour in the senate, Khar said Afghanistan was a "very important country" for Pakistan, the Online news agency reported.

"We must recognize Afghanistan as a sovereign country as required by the UN charter," she said.

The foreign minister said it was in the best interests of Pakistan to have "good relations" with the government in Kabul "what so ever it is".

Khar told the senate that Pakistan's security and prosperity depends on the stability of Afghanistan.

" Therefore, we say that a prosperous, stable and peaceful Afghanistan is in the interest
of Pakistan," Khar said.

Pakistan recently did not attend a conference in Bonn on the security and future of Afghanistan after the withdrawal of foreign troops.

It boycotted the meet after a NATO attack on Pakistani army border posts killed 24 soldiers. (IANS)
