$100M Loss Recorded in  Aviation Income

KABUL - Coronavirus pandemic has caused an estimated $100 million loss to the Civil Aviation Authority and two local airline companies.
Ariana Afghan Airlines and Kam Air to be hit hard with economical challenges caused by COVID-19.
The head of the Civil Aviation Authority said Kam Air sees a $40 million reduction in their income as Ariana Afghan Airlines face $60 million of loss, compared to last year.
By the supporting policy of ACAA, despite financial losses by the pandemic, none of the companies are on the verge of bankruptcy, Mohammad Qasim Wafaeezada, Head of Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority said.
He added the Aviation Authority is working on four infrastructure projects, including the construction of a new terminal in Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, the project between government and private sector will soon be implemented, multiple plans for improving the aviation sector are set to take place.
Some official at the Hamid Karzai International Airport stresses a need for construction of a new airport in Kabul, according to media, the airport is located among residential areas in the city, and it is not safe for people may illegally bring some parts of the land in their possession.
Residential houses surrounding the airport will and can result in future issues to appear.
It is expected a new airport will be built in Logar province southwest of Kabul by 2030. (Khaama Press)
