KABUL - A member of the government’s negotiating team on Tuesday asked the government to specify its basic policy lines for next phases of talks.
After three months of negotiations, the government and Taliban’s negotiating teams agreed on a three-week break. The government’s negotiating team arrived from Doha to Kabul on December 15.
Mulavi Attaullah Lodin, a member of the government’s negotiating team and senator, told today’s session of the upper house, “If the government cannot provide its basic police lines during this period (two weeks for resumption of talks), it should at least provide its policy lines to the negotiating team, based on which future talks would continue.”
He said without these lines, the team would be unable to convince the other side. He said that their team would share with the public the Taliban recommendations for the agenda of next phases of negotiations.
Taliban’s agenda for peace contains six main points but they lack details while the government has one agenda with five points which include security, policy, development and practical mechanism, he added.
A letter which is said to be the agenda of the government for peace talks is circulating in social media, but it is not formally confirmed. (Pajhwok)
