ISLAMABAD - Pakistan has started consultations with various stakeholders in order to negotiate a preferential trade agreement (PTA) with Afghanistan, the Express Tribune reported on Tuesday.
According to the report, advisor to Pakistan’s prime minister on commerce and investment Abdul Razak Dawood has already started discussions and on Monday briefed the Ministry of Commerce on issues related to Pakistan’s trade with Afghanistan and with Central Asian Republics (CARs).
Dawood also reported briefed delegates at the meeting on discussions he held with leaders of Afghanistan during his visit to the country last month – shortly before Imran Khan visited Kabul.
The Express Tribune reported that according to Dawood, a lot of work had been done since these two visits and discussions with stakeholders around the PTA are ongoing.
He was stated that a revision of the Afghanistan-Pakistan Transit Trade Agreement (APTTA) was in its final stages.
The Tribune reported that a delegation of stakeholders from Afghanistan will visit Pakistan from December 28 to 30 to hold talks on the PTA, APTTA and the establishment of joint border markets. (ATN)
