PESHAWAR - Pakistan is simplifying duty structure to promote bilateral trade with Afghanistan, says a prime ministerial aide.
At a meeting with traders in the port city of Karachi on Friday, Advisor on Commerce Abdur Razzaq Dawood discussed tariff barriers on kinnow exports.
“Existing procedures to facilitate Pak-Afghan trade are being simplified and feasible,” Dawood said in a statement after the meeting.
The duty structure was being reviewed and simplified to facilitate trade with Afghanistan, he said, adding the neighbour had imposed duty on kinnow expors from Pakistan.
The duty imposed on Afghan products should be reviewed to prompt Kabul into reversing the duty on imports of Pakistani kinnow, one business leader proposed.
The suggestion was floated by Waheed Ahmed, patron-in-chief of Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters/Importers and Merchants Association
Exporters asked the government to ensure retaining tax-concessions on kinnow exports to Afghanistan and Indonesia besides getting back the Iranian market.
