Herat Students Make Smart-Gate to Fight Covid-19

HERAT CITY - A team of university students in western Herat province has made a smart-gate that detects fever and disinfects any person passing through it.
Herat University’s faculty of computer science students including Mahsa Qayumi, Zainab Mohmmadi, Fatima Zabihi and Humayon Mohammadi took part in the innovation.
Mohammadi, one of the innovators, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the gate could automatically detect fever and send its information to an information center in real time.
“The gate automatically turns as someone approaches it, then it disinfects the person and it measures body temperature of the person”, he said.
Mohammadi said the situation created by Covid-19 obliged them to work on a smart-gate.
Fatima Zabihi, another student who contributed to the initiative, said that anyone with above 37 centigrade temperature was not allowed by the gate to pass. She said the gate was run on DC electricity.
Checking people, recognizing faces and counting the number of people entering through the gate are other features of the smart-gate.
The team says neither the government, nor any other organ, supported them in their effort. (Pajhwok)
