Old Vehicles to be Seized in Kabul: Minister

KABUL - Ministry of transport (MoT) on Tuesday announced creating a five-year plan to ensure smooth flow of traffic in central Kabul. The plan includes seizure of old vehicles and some other procedures.
Qudratullah Zaki, Minister of Transport, made the announcement about the five-year strategic plan in a workshop here.
He said under the five-year plan of his ministry, old vehicles would be impounded in order to reduce traffic in Kabul city.
Without elaborating, Zaki also said they had created a plan to minimize traffic accidents and enable people to easily travel from one area to another.
The minister also said they would create banking system to prevent corruption in income of the Ministry of Transport.
Zaki further announced that an institute of transportation studies would be established to train professionals in the field of transport.
On the other hand, residents of Kabul city complain about problems originating from unruly traffic in the city.
Ajmal, resident of Kart-e-Chahar area, told Pajhwok Afghan News that old vehicles had increased in the city and they were polluting the air.
ZabihullahShirzad, a resident of Dehmazang area of Kabul, said old vehicles were as a major cause of air pollution in the city.
Many Kabul residents expressed similar views and urged the officials to find a solution to these problems.
Kabul residents have long been complaining about air pollution and traffic snarls but the problems remain unaddressed. (Pajhwok)
