UN Reaffirms Support to Afghan Peace Process

KABUL - Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar during a meeting with Deborah Lyons hailed the construction role of UNAMA and other UN agencies in Afghan peace process, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said on Tuesday.
Atmar received the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and Head of UNAMA, Ms. Deborah Lyons, Monday afternoon in his office at the Storai Palace.
The foreign minister expressed his appreciation for the constructive role the UN and its related organizations, especially UNAMA, had been playing to enhance the peace process in Afghanistan.
Ms. Lyons briefed the Afghan Foreign Minister on the programs being implemented in Afghanistan by the various UN agencies, including WHO, UNICEF, UNHCR.
She said that UNAMA was working on new guidelines in light of which the UN agencies should be operating in the country.
Ambassador Lyons assured Atmar of the full UNAMA support for the resumption of talks and restoration of peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Minister Atmar discussed the latest developments regarding the peace talks and expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Lyons and the United Nations for their support to the Afghan peace process. (Pajhwok)
