Afghan Envoy’s Sudden Death Shocks Khalilzad

KABUL - The US special representative for Afghanistan said on Thursday he was shocked at the sudden death of Hakim Dalili, the Afghan ambassador to Qatar.
In a series of tweets, Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad acknowledged the deceased diplomat had worked tirelessly in support of the Afghan peace process.
Appointed as ambassador to the Gulf country in 2019, Dalili died of a heart attack on Tuesday, a day after he was hospitalised in Doha.
The US ambassador hailed Dalili as an “indefatigable” man who had been deeply involved in advancing peace efforts.
Khalilzad wrote: “I met with him often to seek his insights. His positive engagement with the negotiating teams and US and other diplomats will be sorely missed.
“Let us all honor his commitment to peace by redoubling our efforts,” he said, extending condolences to Dalili’s family, the Afghan community in Qatar and his admirers across Afghanistan. (Pajhwok)
