Corruption Threatens Afghanistan’s Future, Says Ghani

KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani says a digital strategy to curb corruption is critically needed and will be introduced and implemented with full force in order to save the country’s future.
Addressing a meeting on the follow up of commitments Afghanistan had made with the world during last year’s Geneva Conference, the president said a digital strategy was being implemented with full force to ensure the eradication of corruption.
“Corruption is our weak point and if not eradicated, it will destroy our future, thus we cannot afford it,” he said.
The president added: “We are a poor country, we should stop unnecessary expenditures. General budget should be reduced to the possible extent and funds should be added to the development budget.”
Referring to recent incidents of violence, the president said: “Violence could not help political solution but political settlement demands multi-dimensional agreement in which the independence of Afghanistan, women, children rights and national unity are ensured.”
The president said the government was in search of a durable peace, adding that the more violence surged the more reality behind democracy emerged.
He said security forces were not only committed to the defence and independence of Afghanistan and the international community had acknowledged the Afghan security forces fight against criminal networks and international terrorism. (Pajhwok)
