Women Launch Tree Plantation Drive in Kabul

KABUL - A number of women have launched a tree plantation campaign in Kabul as part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL)’s initiative.
MAIL at the beginning of the campaign called on Afghan women to contribute to the greenery of the country.
The campaign titled “Green Women” with the Slogan “Saplings of Peace and Greenery” was launched today by MAIL in KololaPushta hill of Kabul city.
AmanullahAmanyar, director of Natural Resources at MAIL, said according to a presidential decree, the saplings plantation campaign would be launched in 34 provinces of Afghanistan and today’s campaign was part of the national program.
“As women are diligent in growing up children, they can also play an essential role in the greenery of the country,” he added.
NaziraRahman, deputy women affairs officer in the program, said planting saplings and reviving the plantation culture was in fact an investment in the nature.
“Not only women, but all compatriots must plant at least a plant to fulfill their human and religious obligation and provide a sound and healthy environment for themselves and their children,” she added.
Fareshta, a government employee participating in this campaign, told Pajhwok Afghan News reporter that she wanted to fulfill her motherly responsibility to the country by planting a sapling.
She urged women to not only plant saplings but also protect them.
Last year, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani issued a decree on sapling plantation and accordingly February 25 was declared as National Plantation Day. (Pajhwok)
