NGO Launches Work on 50 Projects in  Shiberghan

SHIBERGHAN - A non-governmental organization (NGO) has launched work on more than 50 welfare projects in this capital city of northern Jawzjan province amid complaints by local residents about lack of schools, health centres and drinking water.
The projects are being implemented in over 40 villages of Shebirghan City, the provincial capital, by the NGO working for children support.
NGO Head Abdul Basir Arghandiwal, while inaugurating the projects, said: “These projects include the construction of a dam, a retaining wall, water wells, flatting lands for farmers, growing of orchards, protection of meadows and digging canals.”
He said over 10,000 families would benefit from these projects while around 5,000 people would get job opportunities.
Sherin Agha, a resident of Shiberghan City, said: “In our village a boundary wall has been constructed on the canal side which can protect us from flood.”
Deputy Governor Abdul Qadir Malya said: “We have noticed people’s problems in far-flung areas and would address them one after another.”
He said security situation has improved in Shiberghan, paving the way for implementation of welfare project. (Pajhwok)
