JALALABAD - A handicrafts exhibition and a workshop on economic empowerment of women were held in eastern Nangarhar province on Tuesday.
Fatana Aziz, director of provincial women’s affairs, said the workshop was aimed at providing training to women from 11 districts in handicraft production and food processing in collaboration with a number of international organizations.
She added a special market for women had been set up in Jalalabad and efforts were being made to set up two more such markets in one district and seven police districts of Jalalabad.
She said the exhibition and conference were held with the aim of educating women on how to find market their products.
Women engaged in handicrafts in Nangarhar say they have expanded their production, but the lack of a market has exacerbated poverty.
Sabrina, who has a handicraft factory in Behsud district, said she produced handcrafts and sent them to different parts of the country, but sales were low.
She urged the authorities provide them with an opportunity to sell their products in provinces and foreign countries. (Pajhwok)
