Security  Transition Begins in Daikundi

NEILI - After central Parwan province, the second phase of security transition from foreign troops to Afghan forces was launched in Daikundi on Wednesday.
Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, the transition commission head, representatives from the ministries of defense, interior, education, rural rehabilitation, public works and the Independent Director of Local Governance (IDLG) head attended the ceremony.

On December 1, the second phase of transition was completed in Parwan. Governor Abdul Basir Salangi sought deployment one battalion each of Afghan National Army (ANA) and Quick Reaction Force in the province.

Balkh, Daikundi, Takhar, Samangan, Kabul and Nimroz provinces and Jalalabad, Chaghcharan, Shiberghan, Faizabad, Ghazni, Maidan Shahr, Qala-i-Naw cities are included in the second phase.

Speaking in Neili, Ahmadzai called Daikundi was one of the peaceful provinces. He said the security transfer did not mean breaking ties with the West.

"The Western backers of the Afghan government would remain committed to long-term assistance to the country," he hoped.

Governor Qurban Ali Uruzgani stressed the need for equipping Afghan police and army to make the transition program a success.

As part of efforts at strengthening the Daikundi government, the Ministry of Public Works would construct 80 kilometers of roads next year, the deputy minister, Ahmad Shah Wahid, said.

A defense ministry representative, Murad Ali Murad, promised the deployment of an Afghan army battalion in Daikundi. He said increased cooperation of the people was vital to the security transition plan.
