Pakistan Trip Positive, Result-Oriented: Karzai

KABUL - President Hamid Karzai on Monday hailed his recent three-day official visit to Pakistan as an important, unique and result-oriented trip over the past decade.
At a meeting with High Peace Council members, the president said his talks with Pakistan's political leaders and religious figures had been successful in terms of support for the reconciliation drive.

A statement from his office quoted the president as saying the meetings took place in friendly atmosphere, with Pakistani leaders assuring him of respect for Afghanistan's sovereignty and cooperation in peace talks with militants.

"Our negotiations were candid and open, based on facts. Our view was accepted by the Pakistani side," the president said, without elaborating on his view.

Speaking on the occasion, the council advisor on international affairs called Karzai's Pakistan visit positive. The neighboring country's cooperation with the peace process was needed, said Ishmael Qasamyar.
