People Want Strategic  Partnership with US: Karzai

KABUL - President Hamid Karzai met with the US Senate delegation led by Senator John McCain.
At this meeting held at the presidential palace, both sides discussed the long-terms cooperation of the US with Afghanistan and the training of the Afghan security forces.
The US Senate delegation expressed pleasure over the progress achieved in training of the Afghan security forces and hoped that talks on the Afghan-US strategic cooperation treaty reach a conclusion and signed prior to the Chicago conference.

President Karzai said that the people's representatives at the Traditional Loya Jirga expressed their agreement on signing of the strategic cooperation treaty with the US and they laid their conditions as well.
He added that the people of Afghanistan want that the strategic cooperation document is signed in a way that indicates the agreement of the two independent and sovereignty counties.

At the meeting president Karzai also discussed the stoppage on night operations of the international forces and transition of the responsibility of the Bagram prison adding that these issues are important for the people of Afghanistan and the people are sensitive towards them.

It is said that Senators Lenzy Grahanm, John Hoffam, Richard Blumental and Jeef Session are members of the US Senate delegation.

On Afghanistan side present at this meeting were Dr. Zalami Rasul Foreign Minister, Dr. Rangeen Dadfar Spanta National Security Advisor and Abdul Karim Khuram Head of the President's Office. (BNA)
