Karzai Seeks Pakistan’s Support for Peace Process

ISLAMABAD - President Hamid Karzai on Tuesday telephoned Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and sought Islamabad's support for reconciliation talks with the Taliban.
"Karzai underscored Pakistan's importance in the peace process … and reiterated his request for its assistance in the reconciliation process," the Prime Minister's House in Islamabad said..

He thanked Gilani for Pakistan's hospitality and hosting last week's trilateral summit in Islamabad, a statement from the premier's office said.

The president also briefed Gilani on his meetings with Pakistani politicians during his visit and called the talks encouraging and constructive.

According to the statement, the prime minister assured Karzai that Pakistan would whole-heartedly continue supporting an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process with the insurgents.
