Afghanistan, Poland  will Strengthen Ties

Afghanistan Foreign Minister Dr. Zalmai Rassoul at a press conference with Radoslaw Sikorski – the Foreign Minister of Poland, on April 20, 2012, said that Poland has great cooperation with Afghanistan and Afghanistan would seek to strengthen ties with Poland in different fields of life. He said, "Our similar experiences throughout our modern histories, particularly our common struggle and ultimate victory against a common enemy, and your contributions over the past decade, have strengthened the already close and tight bonds of friendship between our two nations."

Talking about the aim of the visit he said, "This visit is also an opportunity to look back at the achievements over the past decade – in education, women's rights, human rights, education. These achievements would not have been possible without your support."

Zalmai Rasool also mentioned that both the foreign ministers had agreed to sign a bilateral

Afghan-Polish cooperation agreement to further strengthen, deepen and broaden cooperation between our countries in the political, economic and social realms.

Apart from the Polish Foreign Minister, Zalmai Rasool also met Deputy Prime Minister Pawlak and

Defence Minister Siemoniak. With Deputy Prime Minister Pawlak he discussed the very positive and mutually-beneficial prospects of Polish investments in different sectors of the Afghan economy, including minerals, gas and oil, agriculture and food processing, while with Defence Minister Siemoniak, he discussed the progress of the transition process, preparations for the upcoming crucial NATO summit in Chicago next month and long-term security cooperation between our two countries, including the training of Afghan officers in Polish military academies.
