Ghani Assails Ministries for Incompetence, Graft

PUL-I-ALAM - Security Transition Commission Chairman Dr. Ashraf Ghazni Ahmadzai on Sunday accused some ministries of incompetence and doing little to resolve people's problems.
During a visit to central Logar province, The ex-finance minister held talks with local officials, including district chiefs, members of the provincial council, of community council and religious leaders.

Many provinces across the country were beset with problems but the relevant ministries, despite spending so much money, could not resolve them, Ahmadzai said.
"The ministers don't pay attention to people's problems but just while away their time," he said, blasting some ministers for converging on Dubai for holidays while ignoring public complaints.

Many provinces, especially Logar which is located close to Kabul, did not have electricity, he noted, criticising the Ministry of Water and Energy.
"Corruption in government institutions is a basic challenge, while there is no court available (to hear grievances)," he pointed out.

However, the ministry denied the allegation and said it had devised plans to supply power to provinces.

They did their job according to plans and power could not be extended to a province in a day, said Deputy Minister of Water and Energy Ghulam Farooq Qazizada.
Under the ministry's plan, a project for power supply to Logar will be implemented in 2014.
