Western Strength Cannot Prevent Insurgency: Sabari

Western Strength Cannot Prevent Insurgency: Sabari

KABUL - The US is unable to prevent the insurgent activity in Afghanistan despite its strong intelligence capabilities, Logar provincial governor Mohammad Taher Sabari told TOLOnews Saturday.
Overseeing the eastern Afghan province positioned next to Pakistan, Sabari blames the neighboring country for much of the instability he sees in Logar, but also attributes the unrest to a failure of the foreign forces.

"It is clear to the world and particularly to the US that insurgents are training in [Pakistan's] Punjab and come to Afghanistan for insurgent activities from there," Sabari said.
"Despite spending huge amounts of money and having strong intelligence, the US has failed to prevent this insurgency in Afghanistan."

He said most of the threats and insurgent activity in Logar province were being planned and organised in Pakistan, who also train in the tribal regions, and who have close ties to Pakistan's intelligence agency.
He suggested that the west of Afghanistan was experiencing a similar struggle with Iran's concerns over the foreign presence as equally strong as Pakistan's.

"They [Iran] are trying to react against the westerners in Afghanistan from every possible way and create insecurity in the western provinces," he said.
Sabari said the efforts of the country's High Peace Council had not gone far enough, particularly in Logar.

"I haven't seen anyone do something spectacular to bring peace up to now," he added.
Meanwhile, a secretary for the Afghan High Peace Council in Logar province General Jalil said that they are trying different ways to bring peace in central province of Logar.

"We have been working for only a short period of time, and we are trying different possible ways to bring peace to Logar," Jalil said. (Tolo News)
