Daudzai Stresses Stop to Incursions

ISLAMABAD - Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Mohammad Omar Daudzai on Thursday asked Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar to stop cross-border attacks into the eastern province of Kunar.
Daudzai, who met Khar in Islamabad, said the missile incursions into Kunar had increased after Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf's maiden official visit to Kabul.

A statement from the Afghan Embassy in Islamabad quoted Duadzai as saying Afghans were extremely angry over the continued assaults that had left hundreds of families displaced, in addition to inflicting casualties on villagers.

The envoy said that both houses of Afghan parliament had strongly condemned the incursions, asking President Hamid Karzai to intervene.

At his meeting with Khar, Duadzai asked Pakistani officials concerned that the attacks into Kunar be stopped with immediate effect. The minister assured Daudzai the issue would be thoroughly investigated and measures taken to prevent such incidents.

The two officials also discussed the upcoming visit of Afghanistan High Peace Council chief Salahuddin Rabbani to Pakistan. They agreed on a tentative date for Rabbani's visit, the statement said, but did not reveal it. (Pajhwok)
