Karzai Meets World Leaders in New York

WASHINGTON - President Hamid Karzai, who arrived in New York on Sunday night to attend the United Nation General Assembly, held a series of meetings with world leaders on the security transition and other issues of mutual interest.

The Afghan leader is scheduled to address the 67th UN General Assembly on Tuesday, hours after his American counterpart Barack Obama would deliver his speech to the world body.

Pakistani president Asif Ali Zardari would also deliver his remarks during the same session with Karzai, who is likely to hold bilateral talks with Zardari.

The leaders are scheduled to join British Prime Minister David Cameroon in an Afghan-Pak-Britain tri-lateral meeting.

Karzai is also expected to meet Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton on the sidelines of the General Assembly.

However, no meeting has been scheduled between Karzai and Obama, with White House officials saying Obama is not having any bilateral meetings in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

In addition to the Afghan-Pak-Britain tri-lateral, officials said two more tri-lateral meetings have been planned at the level of deputy foreign ministers. (Pajhwok)
