Up to 75 Schools Being Built in Central Afghanistan

KABUL - Education Minister Dr. Farooq Wardak on Saturday joined a United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) delegation in laying foundation stones for 75 schools in central Afghanistan.
The projects in Bamyan, Ghor and Daikundi provinces are estimated to cost $25 million, provided by UNICEF's most reliable friend and partner, Japan.

A statement from the UN agency said the cost would be channeled through and administered by UNICEF.

"Regrettably, due to lack of transportation facilities, it was impossible for this high-level delegation to travel to Ghor and Daikundi where this project was supposed to kick off today," the statement said.
"Hence, the start of this outstanding project will also have to be celebrated in this groundbreaking ceremony in Bamyan," it added.

UNICIEF hailed efforts of the Ministry of Education to bring to fruition the implementation of what it called the stupendous project in the three provinces, where quality education facilities have been comparatively not very encouraging.

"This project, we hope is a step closer to achieve the MDG and Education for All Goals," the statement said. (Pajhwok)
