NATO Mission in Afghan on Track: Rasmussen

BRUSSELS - The NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said their mission in Afghanistan was progressing in line with the proposed timetable and security responsibilities for many areas had been shifted to Afghan security forces.

He made the remarks at special meeting on Afghanistan during the second day of the high-level NATO foreign ministers gathering in Brussels, Belgium.

He added: "Afghan security forces are getting stronger and stronger now."

Rasmussen said Afghan forces are now shouldering security responsibilities of more than 75 percent of the areas and 80 percent operations are also being handled by them.

Besides, they conduct 90 percent of the trainings for their recruits.

NATO's assistance to Kabul will continue as both parties will also benefit, he added.

Today's meeting will focus on security transfer, NATO's new mission after 2014, Afghan's stability and sustainable donation to maintain local security forces, he added. (Pajhwok)
