Lawmakers Call for ‘Incapable’ Ministers to Be Prosecuted

KABUL - Afghan lawmakers on Saturday called for any ministers who had not spent more than 50 percent of their ministry's development budgets to be prosecuted.

"Those ministers that spent less than 50 percent of their development budgets should be summoned to the parliament and prosecuted," Baghlan MP Obaidullah Ramin said.

At least 11 ministers have failed to spend for than 50 percent of their development budget, according to the Ministry of Finance reports.

Other MPs said the failure to realize development money into actual projects was tantamount to "treason" given the economic situation of the country.

"Eleven ministries were supposed to launch 115 projects which they didn't. It is the responsibility of the Afghan parliament to follow it up," Kabul MP Shukria Barekzai said. (Tolo News)
