KABUL - Lawmaker Irfanullah Irfan was the only candidate who emerged winner in the second round of voting in the parliamentary board's elections as the rest fell short of the required number of votes on Sunday.

On Saturday, voting on the same position took place between Farhad Azimi from Balkh, Nilofar Ibrahimi from Badakhshan and Nazifa Zaki from Kabul, but none of them could obtain the required 50 percent of votes, 111.

Azimi and Ibrahim once again ran for the position on Sunday, but fell short of the mark.

Irfan, an MP from Kabul, secured 110 votes and his rival Shakiba Hashimi from Kandahar got 47 votes.

The second round of voting for first-vice chairman among Abdul Hafeez Mansoor, Obaidullah Kalimzai and Abdul Rahim Ayubi failed to produce any clear winner.

Mansoor obtained 87 votes, Kalimzai 62, Ayubi 24, according Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, who added Mansoor and Kalimzai had gone to the second round taking place on Monday.

MPs Naimatullah Ghafari and Amanullah Paiman ran for the second deputy speaker position but could not succeed.

Public representative from Logar, Shakila Hashimi, Abdul Rahman Shidani from Bamyan, Naheer Farid from Herat and Mohammad Arif Rahmani from Ghazni made a run for second deputy speaker. Hashimi got 21 votes, Shidani 25, Farid 60 and Rahmani 47. Up to 66 votes were declared invalid.

Ibrahimi said the second round of balloting for second deputy speaker would take place between Farid and Rahman on Monday.

For secretary, Shaiesta Baz Nasiri and Daud Kalakani obtained 56 votes and 107 votes respectively. The votes include 56 invalid. (Pajhwok)
