6 Million Afghan Children Deprived of Education

KABUL - The Afghan officials on Saturday said that more than six million children are deprived of education across Afghanistan. The Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled (MoLSAMD) at the International Children's Day ceremony, criticized that the Afghan children who are deprived of education are involved in various kind of labor works in the country.

The Ministry officials added that some plans and policies have been made in order to enroll the children into schools.

The International Day of Children is annually celebrated on June 1 in most countries. The Afghan high ranking officials also celebrated the day today.

"We are working on various plans to promote education for the children who are working on the streets and we will encourage their families to support them," The Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled Minister, Amina Afzali said.

But Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) said that violence against children have increased this year in Afghanistan and called the children's condition 'painful' in the country.

"The children's condition is not at all good in the country. The violence and rape cases have reached an all time high," the Coordinator of AIHRC, Najibullah Zedran Babrakzai said.

Mojibullah, a 12 year-old boy is one of the thousand Afghan children working on the streets. He washes cars to earn some money but he hopes to study.

"I am tired of washing cars and I urge the Government to help me get educated," Mojibullah told TOLOnews.

Afghanistan, a country which has 14 million children, and according to the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, more than 6 million of them are deprived of education and they are made to work on the streets. (Tolo News)
