Foreign Elements Trying to Create Differences: Karzai

KABUL - Looking at the ongoing differences between the US, Afghan government, Taliban and Afghan citizens over peace negotiations, it has become clear that the foreign elements are trying their level best in Qatar to create differences between the four and destroy Afghanistan.

President Karzai highlighted the issue and emphasized that foreigners want to show to the world that there are differences between Afghan government and citizens of the country by naming the Taliban office in Qatar as "Islamic Emirate".

President Karzai during a meeting with the elders and representatives of Khost province at the Presidential Palace said that he wants to bring peace into Afghanistan. Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Kabul said that Washington does not have any intention to divide Afghanistan.

Naming the Taliban's political office in Qatar as "Islamic Emirates of Afghanistan" provoked some serious reaction from Afghan government.

President Karzai said, "The peace process is our dream but we must not let the aliens take undue advantage of the peace negotiation. Foreigners are trying to establish "Islamic Emirates" in Qatar and "Islamic Republic of Afghanistan" in Kabul to create differences among the citizens of the country and then they will say that the Afghans are fighting with each other."

Opening of Qatar office under the name of "Islamic Emirates" is an effort directed toward dividing Afghanistan. Afghan government and several political parties termed the opening of this office as an "Embassy of Afghanistan" in Doha.

Munawar Shah Bahaderi, Member of Parliament said, "The peace that the US wants to bring into Afghanistan without involving Afghan government, is not actual peace but a way to create tensions in the region and divide the country. We want to make it clear to these people that Afghanistan will never let this happen."

Previously, Washington had accepted that the commitments it made to Afghan government regarding the Taliban's office in Qatar for peace talks were not considered.

James B. Cunningham, US ambassador to Kabul said, "Our intention is not to divide Afghanistan or its citizens by means of this office or the peace discussions. In fact, we hope that this will unite Afghans and pave the way for peace, which this country is in dire need of."

Since many years, Afghanistan and the international community, especially Washington is trying to make peace with the Taliban. Unfortunately, the Taliban even while opening their office in Qatar emphasized on continuing the war. (Tolo News)
