MoI Reports on Last  Month’s War Causalities

KABUL - The Afghan Ministry of the Interior (MoI) on Monday reported that Security Forces causalities have grown 22% from 2012 to this year, and in Jawza solar month (22 may to 21 of June) alone, 299 soldiers were killed and 618 others were injured.

The MoI officials added that road-side bombs and clashes against Taliban insurgents are the causes of the increased level of causalities.

Ministry of the Interior spokesman, Sediq Sediqi, claimed that 753 Taliban insurgents were killed , 214 injured and 305 others detained in the last solar month.

Based on the report, in the same period, 387 military operations were launched against the Taliban and other insurgents groups, with 60 out of the 387 operations launched by Security Forces.

The report highlighted that 180 civilians were also killed during the last month.

"The causalities increased. But we hurt the enemy also, as they had lots of causalities. The enemy failed every where they attacked and moreover, we had success in cases of trying to defuse their bombs and prevent causalities," said Mr. Sediqi.

The International Security Assistance Forces ISAF stressed strengthening the Afghan military when it comes to disabling improvised explosive devices (IEDs)

Afghan security forces will be taking on security responsibilities for the entire country at the end of 2014. (Tolo news)
