WB to Provide  Over $74m for AAIP

KABUL - The World Bank (WB) would grant $74.7 million to the Afghanistan Agricultural Input Project (AAIP) for maintaining food security in the country, officials said on Wednesday.

The assistance will be spent on three major parts of agriculture such as breeding and seed production, quarantine and a quality-control system for food and distribution of agro products.

Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Mohammad AsifRahimi said at the inaugural ceremony for AAIP workshops in Kabul one key objective behind the program was facilitating sustained access to food.

Improving technical capacity, managerial skills and service delivery were other major aims, Rahimi said, adding master’s, doctorate and technical training facility would be provided to 146 government employees.

The numbers of employees in the tree areas would be increased from 60 to 226, the minister explained, hoping the initiative would yield good results. (Pajhwok)
