Stability in Afghanistan is in Hands of State: Nazarbayev

BISHEK - The stability in Afghanistan is in hands of the state itself,” the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev said today at the expanded-format meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s member states.

According to him, the stability in the SCO states is a formula for success.

“Stability in Afghanistan is in the power of the state itself. The status of Kabul observer must be supported by practical actions. As for the nuclear program of Iran, the problem can be resolved by diplomatic means. It is good that the President of Iran is present at the summit today,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

He added that Kazakhstan is extremely concerned about the use of chemical weapons in Syria. “We support the initiative of Russia to control it at the international level. It will be the way out. Besides, fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism must be resolved in the frontier zones of the SCO member states and states-observers. It is also necessary to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

Recall, the 13th summit of the SCO member states is being held in Bishkek. The main topic of the negotiations is security in the Central Asian region in view of withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan in 2014. (Agencies)
