695 to Attend Loya Jirga from 4 Provinces

KABUL - A list of 695 participants from four provinces in the upcoming consultative Loya Jirga on the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) between Kabul and Washington was released on Saturday.

Released by the Office of Administrative Affairs (OAA), the list includes representatives of the disabled, civil society, women, Ulema Council and refugees.

The list was finalized based on discussions at a meeting of the Loya Jirga preparatory commission. Forty-four people will attend the Jirga from Badakhshan, 20 from Farah, nine from Nimroz and 17 from Jawzjan.

The special people will have 40 representatives, civil society 100, women 65, Ulema 250, Pakistan-based refugees 120 and refugees in others countries 30 representatives in the Jirga.

The preparatory commission has been tasked with finalizing the participants’ list and presenting it to President Hamid Karzai, according to a statement from OAA.

Expected to take place next week, the Jirga will be attended by nearly 3,000 representatives of the people, who will advise the government whether or not to sign the security deal. (Pajhwok)
