Govt. Entities Owe 1b Afsto Power Utility

KABUL - Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat (DABS), the power utility, on Wednesday said some government departments had not yet cleared their electricity bills amounting to one billion afghanis, while many officials had to pay dues worth millions of afghanis.

At a news conference in Kabul, DABS head Mirwais Alami warned defaulters of snapping power supply to them if they failed to clear the dues. He said all government departments had to pay arrears.

Alami recalled in 2011 and 2012, government departments owed 900 million afghanis to the company and this year’s dues stood at 83 million afghanis.

“Some high government officials often keep on air-conditioners uselessly, causing a huge waste of electricity,” Alami lamented. He warned power supply would be disconnected to departments failing to clear outstanding amounts.

He said the Breshna Shirkat was in contact with the Cabinet to decide the fate of defaulting departments. “Some influential officials and warlords have not been paying bills amounting to millions of afghanis.” (Pajhwok)
