Security Deal will Be Inked at an Opportune Time: Mousazai

BRUSSELS - The inking of the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) with the US would be a milestone for returning peace and stability in the region but conditionally the vital pact should guarantee peace and security in the country, Afghanistan Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

Talking to journalists in Belgium, Janan Mousazai, said the Afghan government was willing to ink the deal but it would be signed at an opportune time.

Foreign minister, Zarar Ahmad Osmani and interior minister, Omar Daudzai also spoke on issues concerning the country, especially the BSA and cooperation agreement with NATO at the sideline of NATO ministerial-level meeting.

“What we want is peace in our country and safety of Afghans from military operations because Afghan’s homes are not terrorists’ sanctuaries. We seek assurances to respect houses of Afghans,” he added.

On Tuesday, US Secretary of State John Kerry said Afghan defense minister Bismillah Khan Mohammadi or government could sign the security agreement with the US instead of a reluctant President Hamid Karzai.

In response to Kerry’s remarks, Mousazai said it was up to President Hamid Karzai to take decision whether he or another government official would ink the security accord.

However, President Hamid Karzai set pre-conditions for signing BSA despite the fact that the pact was ratified by the consultative Loya Jirga. The tribal assembly or Loya Jirga urged president to ink the vital security deal as soon as possible.

The foreign ministry spokesman said the security deal was for security of the region and international community, which would be inked because of its necessity. (Pajhwok)
