KABUL - Leading presidential contender Dr. Abdullah Abdullah on Monday slammed President Hamid Karzai’s recent remarks that Washington was acting like a colonial power as “an emotional approach”. In his interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, Abdullah warned Karzai’s rhetoric on the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) with the United States would further complicate the current situation in the country.

Earlier, in an interview with the French newspaper Le Monde, Karzai had blamed the US for behaving like a colonial power to get the BSA signed. He asked Americans to ensure both nations were equally benefited by the agreement.

Also the National Coalition of Afghanistan (NCA), Dr. Abdullah expressed optimism that the president would clarify his stance on the deal that was overwhelmingly endorsed by a consultative Loya Jirga last month.

The president says he will sign the agreement only if it helps bring peace to the country, halt night raids on Afghan homes and conduct transparent elections.

The US has warned of leaving no soldier in Afghanistan after 2014 if the agreement is not signed by the end of the current year. (Pajhwok)
