KABUL - The National Security Council of Afghanistan (NSC) took over the responsibilities for the transition of security responsibilities from coalition forces to Afghan national security forces.

The fifth and final phase of security transition to Afghan security forces, which is currently in process, will be completed by next year.

Presidential palace media office following a statement said the National Security Council was appointed to overview and lead the security transition.

Meanwhile, security analysts insist that the final phase of security transition from NATO forces to Afghan national security forces should be properly implemented.

The observers also insist on long term support of the international community to Afghan national security forces.

The first phase of security transition from NATO troops to Afghan security forces took place in the month of August 2008, where Afghan forces took over responsibility of capital Kabul from coalition forces.

NATO member countries also approved to complete the security transition to Afghan security forces by the end of 2014, during the NATO summit in Chicago earlier last year.

Afghan presidential candidate Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai used to lead the Afghan Transition Coordination Commission (TCC), however he resigned from his position after nominating for the 2014 presidential elections. (KP)
