Review Board Overstepped Mandate: Pentagon

WASHINGTON - The Afghan Review Board has overstepped its mandate by deciding to release a number of dangerous individuals who are legitimate threats, the Pentagon said Monday.

"The Afghan Review Board has exceeded their mandate and ordered the release of a number of dangerous individuals for whom there is strong evidence supporting prosecution,” the Pentagon press secretary said.

Army Col. Steve H Warren told reporters during an off-camera news conference that release of the individuals undermined rule of law, because the Afghan people did not get their day in court.

Warren said: “Based on the evidence and the risk these individuals pose to the peace and security of the Afghan people, their cases should be addressed by the formal Afghan justice system." (Pajhwok)
