MPs Protest to Pressure Karzai to Submit Final Cabinet Nominees

KABUL - Afghan legislators say they are staging a fourth day of silent protests against President Hamid Karzai for his failure to fill the remaining seven posts in his 25-member Cabinet.
Lawmaker ShirWaliWardak says he and a majority of legislators in the Afghan parliament are upset that Karzai has not sought parliamentary approval to replace or confirm seven acting ministers. Legislators say Karzai's failure to do so is hampering those ministries' work.

The president must also nominate three Supreme Court justices who have reached the end of their terms. Karzai spokesman Waheed Omer said Tuesday the president plans to submit names soon. The Afghan parliament is scheduled to go on a summer recess next week and has put completion of Karzai's Cabinet at the top of its agenda. (AP)
