Khalili Asks for Transparent Distribution of Aids in Provinces

KABUL - Second Vice-President, Mohammad Karim Khalili, chaired a meeting of high government commission on counter-natural disasters discussing several key issues, his office said in a statement on Sunday.

Sending 6,000 tons wheat to Ghor from the central silo to Ghor province was part of the agendas discussed at the meeting by the commission secretariat office and it was decided that the process could continue to other districts of the province as well, according to the statement.

The minister of agriculture and livestock said that the allocated wheat had been sent to the six districts of the province, where the distribution process could get underway under the local organizations.

1,500 internally displaced people (IDP) had received the aids reaching to 150 tons of flour, 75 tons of rice and other essentials in western Herat province and the process was said to be extended in Ghor and Badghis province, where the IDPs were informed to gather in Sadat district of the province to be sent to the related provinces.

The ministry of public works also provided primary edible and inedible items to prevent possible natural disasters in some areas of Salangs, Mahbar and Kotal-e-Mullah Yaqoub as well a contract was signed on up to 7,080 km road of the first category and 909 km for the second category by the ministry of rural development.

The issues on the vulnerable people in some points of some provinces such as Lghman, Kunar, Badakhshan, Helmand, Paktia and districts of Jaghori of Ghor province had also been discussed.

The vice-president said on the three tons of wheat expected to be sent to Nuristan province that the process should be transparent and added that he was waiting for the result of the sent delegation to the province.

He said no excuse would be accepted for transparency of the wheat distribution process.

The minister of agriculture, livestock and irrigation was also said to be sent to Kazakhistan, where it would find some $6million from that country to meet contingent natural disasters.

Purchasing machinery for digging canals was also discussed at the meeting, during which the ministry of finance was obliged to allocate an outlay of annual $5 million to the ministry of water and energy to consolidate the Amu Darya banks and from the money $1 million had been said to be spent in digging water canals.  (WNA)
