Journalists Boycott Taliban Coverage for 15 Days

KABUL - Denouncing the death of their colleague in the Serena Hotel attack, Afghan journalists have boycotted Taliban’s news coverage for a period of 15 days.

Journalist Sardar Ahmad, his wife and two children were among nine people killed in the assault, claimed by the Taliban. Sardar’s third child was wounded and remains in critical condition.

At a meeting on Friday, the journalists decided to avoid broadcasting any information that could further Taliban’s efforts to project their violent acts. “We also ask the Taliban for an explanation of how they justify the shooting of innocent children.”

In a statement, the journalists said: “Once again, our fraternity mourns the loss of one of its active members in a tragic incident, which comes despite the fact that Afghan journalists have assiduously tried to remain neutral in their coverage under difficult circumstances.” (Pajhwok)
