ECC Ready to Address Complaints on Election Day

KABUL - With Election Day just around the corner, officials from the Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) announced on Sunday that they plan to have offices open in all 34 provinces ready to address any problems that arise during the voting process.

Head of ECC Secretariat Mohammad Ali Setegh said civil society groups and other observers are ready to help address complaints and assure a transparent election.

Officials of the ECC have investigated more than 3,000 complaints against the presidential and provincial council candidates already, but they indicated that they expect more to come this week and a rush on the Election Day itself.

More than 107 provincial council candidates have been removed from the race because of errors and forgeries in their official nomination papers, according to the ECC. Back in September of last year, over half of all the presidential hopefuls that nominated themselves to the Independent Election Commission (IEC) were cut due to similar issues.

The ECC and the IEC have entered their final stages of preparation for Saturday's vote. IEC officials have said the process of distributing critical election materials, such as voting ballots, to provinces around the country has already begun and is expected to be completed by Friday.  (Tolonews)
