Do the Candidates Deserve Second Round Elections?

"One of the most the hazardous characteristics of politicians is this that they want to undertake those things which they know that they do not deserve to undertake those things, but they like to undertake."  Gastaw Laban

The history of Afghanistan has proved that from the birthday of this country till now most of the King sand Emirs of this country did not work for all the tribes, even those Kings and Emirs did not work for their own tribes very honestly and faithfully. Some are in this belief that they did not work for all the people intentionally while some are in this belief that they wanted to work for all the tribes of Afghanistan, but due to some problems they could not work very honestly and equally for all the tribes even for their own tribes. If we have an impartial and deep look at the history of Afghanistan from its official birthday till now, we can find the reason that why they did not want and why they couldn’t. All the historical books which have written about the annals of Afghanistan from the historians of various tribes of Afghanistan such; "Afghanistan on the Arc of history- Mir Ghulam Mohammad Ghubar", "Emergence of New Afghanistan-Waritan Gregorian translated by Ali AlimiKermani", " The Political History of Contemporary Afghanistan- AbuzarPirwazaGhaznawi", " Afghanistan in Twentieth Century- ZahirTanin", Afghanistan in the Five  Late Centuries- Mir Mohammad SidiqFarhang", SarajullTawarikh- Faiz Mohammad Katib Hazara and so on, have provided a lot of concrete evidences that most of the kings and  Emirs of Afghanistan did not work honestly ,wantedly and equally for all the tribes of Afghanistan equally, and even they did not work honestly for their own tribes.

The people who support this idea that the Kings and Emirs of Afghanistan could not work for their own people very honestly and equally and that is unfair to say that they did not want to work for all the people honestly and intentionally bringing up this issue that because most of these Kings and Emirs were pick-handed by other superpowers of the world such as Russia, England and the USA, therefore they did not have any authority and right to change, replace a staff, bring up an idea, serve their people, and even eat and drink without the permission of their bosses, that is why they could not work for their people very honestly and freely.

It is open to public that most of the political figures who were at the head of power in Afghanistan since the period of Ahmad Shah Baba, the first King of Afghanistan, till now did not work for all the tribes of Afghanistan even for their own tribes very honestly and equally. Whatever the reason was- that is out of discussion of this current article.

In 2001 a new page was opened in the history of Afghanistan as a result of overthrowing the totalitarian and fundamentalist regime of Taliban by the international forces ISAF and NATO under the supervision of the United States of America. This new page of history brought a lot of changes for this war-torn country and its war-suffered people such as, democracy, human rights, open-market, civil society, private sectors and so on. One of the main and rudimentary changes was fair and transparent election through which people can opt their arbitrary president and congresspersons. Though we had practiced this phenomenon before but not officially and thoroughly, I mean this was only for ruling and dominant tribes of Afghanistan. Everybody did not have the right to nominate themselves as candidate and choose their arbitrary candidate; although, the constitution law allowed everybody to choose and nominate oneself as candidate. On the other hand, this election or better to say this democratic government gave legal and political right to all the citizens of Afghanistan to practice their political and legal rights freely and arbitrarily in their life in Afghanistan.

Since 2001 till now we have passed three democratic and thorough election in Afghanistan which in two election Hamid Karzai, the current president of Afghanistan, won the election; and the third election which was held in the current year 2014/16 of Hmal 1393, Hamid Karzai did not have the right to participate according to the constitution law of Afghanistan, but there were ten candidates who competed with each other for two months, and finally went to election day on 16 of Hamal, 1393; the most well-known and populated candidates were Dr.Abdullah Abdullah, Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai and Dr. Zulami Rasool. According to the primary result of 1393 election which was announced by Independent Election Commission, none of the candidates could get the fifty percent plus one(50%+1). And now, all the people are waiting very impatiently  for the announcement of final result of 1393 election, and if the final result shows that nobody could get the fifty plus one(50%+1), definitely the election goes to second round on condition that the candidates do not make a coalition government.

Now the question is here that do these candidates deserve for holding the second round election? Different people will respond to this question differently. Some may say "yes" and some may say" no" but I want to respond to this question differently. It is obvious to all the people of Afghanistan that it is very difficult and hard to find a candidate among these ten candidates who really wants to work for Afghanistan and serves honestly and faithfully to his people, but it is not impossible. It is possible. Although since the birthday of this country, the kings, Emirs and presidents of Afghanistan very rarely and very unnoticeably worked for their country and country-fellows, but we have to change this trend because we elect the president and congresspersons of our country, so this trend is not changed unless we change our mind and decision.

It is as clear as crystal that anybody who becomes the future president of Afghanistan may not work for all the tribes of Afghanistan even if they intend to work. Because still in Afghanistan, we suffer from lack of real service, meritocracy, rule of law, honesty, positive phobia of being prosecuted by court in case of duty dereliction, and good governance. It takes time to cultivate and institutionalize the above mentioned prominent and highly-valued phenomena. Thus I must say that even if they do not deserve but there is no any alternative, we have to go to second round election not because of these candidates but because of our own future for the purpose of changing this relation-based and kinship-based government into a meritocratic and democratic government.

Therefore, I advise all my war-suffered and heroic fellow countrymen to participate in the second round election in case it is held, though we are tired of this political game, there is no any other solution because that is the only peaceful, democratic and correct way to get rid of this dark, lackluster and incongruous situation.
