Saving for Saving Dignity

Saving for Saving Dignity

The society was shrouded in sinister silence. The outpouring of oppression sealed the lips and vice and violence were rife. Raising eyebrows was answered with sword and voices were choked and silenced angrily. The deep hibernation of the people changed the community into a cemetery. Therefore, no one dared breathe a word. One had to grin and bear it.

Lack of virtue left a great vacuum in the souls. The society was emptied of moral values and religious beliefs. The mundane pleasures whetted the appetites for further properties and comfort. The Caliph stayed in luxurious palace, eating sumptuous meal and drinking heavily, whereas his people’s stomachs were rumbling with hunger and the sky was their only roof and brick their only pillows.

The eyes were focused on a mud-built and simple house – which was the only hope for people. Unlike the public, there was a paragon of virtue who did not pledge allegiance to the Caliph. He comes out with his family in protest of the status quo. He is alone and unarmed but smolders with volcanic faith and burning feelings of hatred against the oppression and moral corruption. A huge explosion seemed to take place that would shake not only the luxurious buildings of the aristocrats but also awaken the conscience of the public.

He prefers a glorious death to a disdainful life. He has already announced that he would embrace martyrdom in a burning desert. He knows that his martyrdom will break the chains of slavery and hearten the salves to free themselves at the cost of their life. His martyrdom in such a sensitive situation would symbolize the best of the human spirit.  His blood is his only arm which would gain victory over sword. Who this historical hero will be! Is he Moses who revolts against Pharaoh?  Is he Abraham who protests against Nimrod? Is he Muhammad (PBUH) who fights against pagans? He is none but the grandson of Muhammad (PBUH) and the son of Ali (A.S) and Fatima (S.A).

He takes his family to color and redden the scenario with more drops of blood. He knows that the color of blood is inerasable from the pages of history. He intends to display the cruelty of the regime with having his children murdered and her family captured. All should play their role, including women and children, so that the history and next generation will judge about them.

A woman also walks with him side by side. Since martyrdom carries blood and message, his sister goes with him to convey the message of his blood. She intends not to let her brother’s blood dries up. She makes his blood pulse through history for centuries so that all the future generations receive his messages.

His blood will keep the heart of history beating for centuries, he knows. His tomb will be the shrine of freedom fighters. His bravery, manliness and virtue will be a great lesson for human and humanity. His drops of blood will make an ocean to ruin the skyscrapers which are built by the people’s properties.  He decides to recover the religious beliefs, moral values and social norms which have been eroded after the sad demise of his grandfather. He will prevent Islamic Sunnah from being metamorphosed. Does he have arms and armies? No, his arm is his blood and his armies are his family and the small group of his Companions! He will make an ocean to drown the dictatorial regime. Is the regime legitimate?

The Caliph claims legitimacy and asks Imam Husain (A.S) to pledge allegiance. But it is a great disdain for one – especially who was trained in the school of the holy Prophet (PBUH)– to pledge allegiance to a cruel regime. But he is left between two choices: allegiance or death. For great souls, death is sweeter than honey. Therefore, he challenges the death and gains victory over it. He knows that he will not die but will be given a rebirth. No matter if his body is torn up under the nails of horses, by the swords and lances of the oppressors, but his soul will never die. He intends to shield Islamic Sharia at the cost of his life.

In this historical scenario, he will play the role of hero in a burning desert and her sister the role of his messenger. This is not a drama and this filmic scenario is real and the history witnesses with bleeding heart. Imam Husain (A.S) planned such a unique strategy against the cruel and cruelties and stepped on the blazing desert of Karbala. His intention bore the very desired fruit and defamed the dictatorial regime forever.

His enemy decided to defame the free fighter Imam (A.S) and introduce him as a rebellious man. But the heroine of the revolution, Bibi Zainab (S.A), shouldered the responsibility of her brother and silenced the Caliph and his men with logical arguments and her strong reasons and words moved the audience into tears. She introduced Imam Husain (A.S) and defined his sacred target clearly. She denounced the Caliph and his illegitimate regime for their cruelties and inhumanity. She addressed them bravely, that no one can erase the name and prevent from the spread of her brother’s message. She talked, not like a captive woman, but as a victorious heroine. She neither lost her morale, nor hesitated about the rightness of her brother’s revolution. She conveyed the sacred message of her brother to the world successfully.
