The Nourishment of a Personality

The Nourishment of a Personality

It is believed that a human being develops the most of his learning when he is a child. Childhood is the period of life wherein a child has a blank and ready mind; therefore it is relatively easier to input data and information in his mind. Same is the case with his habits and behaviors; as they are not fully developed. It is, thus, possible to mold them any way desired. Though it is not possible to condition a child's mind and behavior completely as desired, as human mind is more complex than computer and does not always respond in a programmed way; it is always possible to have a certain amount of programming.
A child's thinking and behavior largely depends on the nourishment of the parents. Family is the first institution where a child is trained and educated. Though it is not possible to neglect the impacts of family on a child, it at the same time is important to note that these impacts are not always positive. Even though a child's nourishment is conditioned by a family, a family itself is conditioned by various other factors. These factors include financial position of the family, its religious background and its social position in the society. The interactions of all these factors and the responses of the families make each family a unique one and thus the nourishment of each child takes place in unique circumstances and each child develops a different personality.
The debatable issue at this stance is whether nourishment of each child in different circumstances is justifiable, as in this way some children may get better nourishment than others, as they may be nourished by families with better privilege. However, at the same time it is important to know that giving every child similar privilege is not practicable. Does it mean that the world would remain unjust to children and there should not be efforts to provide children what they deserve? No, it does not mean so; all the children have the rights to be provided with better facilities of life, and people should make efforts to make that possible.
It is responsibility of both the families and government to ensure proper nourishment of the children. Every child who comes to the world must be made a part of it. As children are dependent on their parents for their basic requirement, the parents must not turn them down. Nevertheless, the parents are also responsible for what they teach; the contents of their teachings ad their guidance plays a dominant role on how the personalities of children would be. It is really tragic to note that most of the parents are not able to provide proper nourishment to their children. Instead of making them independent and stand on their own, they are treated in such a way that they keep on relying on their parents even when they get young. The parents, as a matter of fact, become too much possessive and even force their decisions on the children and want that their children must live the type of life they like. Parents fail to understand that making the children capable enough to make right decisions on their own, can support them in having a better life even without the interference of their parents. However, it is not the family alone that develops the personality of person, there are many other actors and factors as well.

The creation of a personality is highly reliant on various institutions; from family to political system, there is a long listing. Definitely, the family is the fundamental one but the institutions like schools, social, cultural and religious institutions and ceremonies, offices, sports and others have their perpetual influences. All these institutions have diverse practices and there are different personalities in them that mark their marks on a person’s psychology. It is not easy to say that a particular behavior within a person is the result of the family or the parents alone as there are different factors involved all at once. It would be like writing a word and reading one of the alphabets from it, which would never make sense and meaning. To generate sense and meaning the word should be read as a whole word.

Parents’ nourishment, their concern and their disregard have influence on the children, this cannot be discarded. It is thought and thought rightly that a mother’s lap is the first academy for a child. But there is a long voyage between how a person is treated by his parents and his choice to commit an evil. In addition, the imprints of parent’s behavior on the minds of the children are not like reflection in a mirror. It does not come back in the same form; or, as mentioned above, it is not like the input and output in the computer, where the output is as per the demands of the users. If it was so, parenting would not be difficult at all, but it is not so and the parents living in our society are the witness to it. The love from the parents will not necessarily result in a good conduct of the children – observations show that children with great love and attention from their parents have committed crimes and evils that have made history; similarly, their neglect does not necessarily result in the children becoming evil-doers. There are many children in our society, who are the victims of their parents’ negligence, yet they show great values and behavior and even hate evils. Simply, human behavior and psychology is not like mathematics where two plus two is equal to four. To understand it, more efforts are required than just to cram the tables; unfortunately, cramming is alone what many so-called analysts know; therefore, they are not able to understand the complex nature of human existence.

It is now clear that the parenting and the nourishment of a child and the development of his personality is not a very simple process; it is really complicated and involves different actors and factors. The important point, however, is that all those actors and factors that have their influence on the children must make sure that they have responsible and caring roles and provide the children the facilities to grow on their own and become positive member of the society.
